We are back in Melbourne after an on-time flight from Auckland.
We spent the morning driving south from Snells Beach to Auckland with a few stops along the way. As we were leaving Snells Beach we saw some signs for a festival in Warkworth, a town we had to drive right through. As we got close to the town, it seemed like everyone was headed for the festival, so we found a spot to park and checked it out. It was a street festival with lots of vendors selling jewelry, food, clothes, art, etc. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the sights. This small town sits right on a river and there was a sea-kayak race on it as part of the festival. That was fun to watch~all different ages participating!
We continued our drive south and decided to check out some of the volcano cones that are a distinguishing feature of the Auckland landscape. We were able to drive to the top of 2 of the volcano cones and walk around, getting great views of the city!
When we returned our Jucy rental car we told them that they gave us a car with no gas, and they were quite surprised. To remedy the situation, they reimbursed us for all the money we spent on gas, which was a good way to handle the situation.
So we are back in the Quest apartments, in a different apartment, but it was nice to get a warm welcome back from the receptionist! We have rearranged all of our luggage so that we only have what we need in our carry-on bags. We have 4 very heavy bags to check~we are pretty sure that they fall within the weight limits!
I may write one more blog when we get home. But I do want to thank all the folks who have been reading this blog. I started writing this blog as a way to let our parents and kids know what we were up to. It has grown into so much more than that and I am thrilled that Jim and I now have such a complete diary of this special time in our lives. Thanks for your comments and feedback, I loved reading every one of them!
Hope to see you on Nov. 2nd, if not before!
