Our Bikes Arrived!

Biking is big here in Melbourne. Earlier in the week, when I went for a walk along the Yarra River in the morning I was amazed at the steady stream of bikers heading to work or out to get some exercise. There are biking/walking trails on both sides of the river and there was rush-hour traffic on both trails that morning! We see bikers on all the city streets, rain or shine. So we’ve been awaiting the arrival of our bikes (and all the rest of the stuff we had shipped).

Most of the shipment in the middle of our living space.

Yesterday we got word that our air shipment crate had cleared through customs and quarantine and would be delivered today between 1 and 3 PM. The movers were here at 1:20 and quickly had our 2 bike boxes and 5 other boxes delivered to the center of our living space! Everything looks like it came through the shipping process just fine.

The bikes will be living on our balcony but we need to find space for all the other stuff that was shipped. There is not much storage in this apartment, but the management has offered us storage space on the first floor. This weekend we will get that all worked out.

I did some shopping on Chapel Street and Toorak Street today. I picked up a pair of shoes that I thought were cute and quickly put them down when I saw the $500 price tag! This is the same place that has some of their summer sandals on sale for $299! Yikes, that is out of my league!

Tonight we went to dinner with 3 of Jim’s colleagues from Rochester who have been in Melbourne for a few days. We showed them our apartment and then went to dinner on Chapel Street. We enjoyed their company as well as our meal and the opportunity to do some people watching!

Tomorrow we will meet up with these folks again for some sightseeing. We are going to the Healesville Sanctuary where we will get to see many of the native animals and then we will go to some of the famous Yarra Valley wineries. Should be a fun day!

Thanks to those of you who have left comments. It is good to hear from you.

    Dear Marji and Jim,

Your parents kindly gave us your Blog details so we have been able to follow your arrival in Melbourne. So pleased to hear that all has gone well and that you are settling into the Aussie way of life-even if it does mean driving on the “wrong” side of the road. We are also delighted that your Mom and Dad are getting used to their new home, we think it was the right decision.

    Love from us both,

    Roger and Mary Flint
